Nigeria's main opposition has raised concern that the PDP led Government was planning to present a “fake” Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau before Nigerians in order to claim victory in winning the war on terrorism ahead of the general elections.
APC through a statement released by Malam Garba Shehu who is the Director of Media and Publicity of its Presidential Campaign Organization (APCPCO), stated that reliable sources had informed the APC that the “fake” Shekau might become a tool to blackmail members of the opposition by coaching the fake terror leader to say he was working for the opposition party candidate, Gen. Muh'd Buhari, in order to link its presidential candidate to terrorism as it had attempted but failed in the past.
Shehu wondered where the “new Shekau” will emerge from after PDP led government at several times in the past, announced that they had killed the terrorist leader.
“The plead to the military, that it should try and catch Shekau alive by the President Jonathan in the last 24 hours adds credence to the report that indeed a fake Shekau is looming,” stated Shehu.
He further said the profile of the real leader of the insurgents is evident that the man will likely not allow himself to be caught alive.
“It is both contradictory to the ideology of what he preaches and the psychological profile that the world has of him that Abubakar Shekau would allow himself to be caught alive,” Shehu said.
The accusations comes amid runours the army was closing in on Shekau following reported success the army has secured over the terror group in recent days.
The military has earlier reported to have captured the leader or suggested he had been killed by rival colleagues within the terror group.
