Sarah Willis was having a heated argument with 29-year-old Bilal Saddique boyfriend, who said she was having an affair before the incident, the court was told.
Reports says they had experienced 'cultural' difficulties, with Saddique and Willis, who converted to Islam while still a schoolgirl to be with him, enduring a stormy relationship which was on and off for 3 years.
She often complained to friends that he was 'controlling', and that he was very secretive about his relationship with her because his parents were unaware he was dating a white girl.
The court also heard how Bilal dislikes her wearing tight and short clothes, which did not fit in with his conservative Muslim upbringing.
It was reported that she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him to death after threatening to leave him.
Willis, however, says that he grabbed her hand while she held the knife and plunged it into his own thigh, puncturing an artery.
She claims that she immediately ran out into the street, screaming for help.
Francis McEntee, prosecuting, mentioned to the jury at Preston Crown Court: "She said against a background of arguments whilst she was collecting the knives he taunted her that he had slept with a woman.
"He said he had slept with her and had done so on a number of occasions including as recently as the past week.
"Her account is that during this argument Mr Saddique was sitting on the work surface in the kitchen area and Mr Saddique has started to say 'come on hit me, come on f****** stab me if you hate me'.
"She had adopted the Islamic religion when a schoolgirl and was clearly keen to comply with Muslim standards of dress and chose not to show her arms or legs.
"But there had been culture difficulty in introducing the defendant to Mr Saddique's family and neither he nor her had met their respective partner's parents."
The court heard how he was jealous because he felt Willis was in a relationship with one of her colleagues.
Willis told her boyfriend that the suspected colleague had gotten another job, but when he picked her up that evening he saw the man leaving the office.
An argument ensued, which continued when they got back to his home.
The 19-year-old then rushed upstairs, saying that she was going to collect her things, which included a box of knives.
She said to police during an interview that right before the fatal incident, the victim tried to pick her up and carry her down the stairs while boasting that he himself had been having an affair with another woman.
